Now that I've gotten my tank pretty well established...I'll still be adding a few things here and there...one of my worst fears is possibly introducing a disease to the tank from new fish. Are there any tips, tricks, or suggestions on preventing this from happening? I'm sure there must be SOME way to minimize the risk of introducing a disease to my tank. Can anyone offer me some advice on this?

solution - do what i failed to do today - use a small quarantine tank for 4-6 weeks for new fish - this is the only way to prevent disease - oh yeah one more tip if you buy new plants wash them in warm water - sometimes they carry stuff in on them
one more - if your q tank is full r sick don't impulse buy and put new fish straight into your tank  - me again - ugghghhg

Quarantine tank, quarantine tank, quarantine tank.
We spend umpteem bucks getting a set up going and then choke when it's time to spend another few on a bare tank, a heater, and a sponge filter.
Quarantine tank. There is really no other way.

1) Quarantine tank
2) Buy from a store you trust

If you have a great store who charges twice as much fortheir fish, don't hesitate to pay that much. The $1 or $3 you save per fish can quickly be lost to medications, and lost fish. Even though a mega store may replace the fish they sold you, they do not replace your own fish that die from illness due to their sick fish.

I've seen stores that charge twice as much for sick fish, I wouldn't buy a plastic fish from them. The best way to go is a QT tank!!! :)

When you put the new fish in the quarantine tank, add only the fish, not the water from the store tanks. A large net and bucket will do the job.

Oh, yes, I still quarantine even fish from the expensive store, but when I buy from them, I am more likely to put those new fish into a planted isolation tank, not a barebottomed Q tank -- just because I expect them to be healthier than the mega store fish. I've never had one of their fish get sick, or die -- except for the danio that choked on food that was too large to eat.
