Hello, I just got my 25 gallon tall for christmas yesterday : )... Anyways, I got 2 16 lb bags of flourite (and only needed one anyways), rinsed it, and put it into my tank. I put a plate onto the flourite and poured the water in, which came out to be a muddy brownish color. I know on the instuctions on the bag it says that it will be cloudy, This cloudiness doesnt really seem like it will settle on my own.. Should i run my filter or do anything else? Thanks.

You could do water changes. I was told to rinse the flourite and then sun dry and then add to the tank. Another trick I was told is to add 3/4 of the flourite to the tank unwashed and then wash/rinse the 1/4 left and lay the washed flourite ontop of the dry-unwashed flourite and then add water. But yes, you could either 1. run your filter and/or 2. do some water changes.
It is supposed to settle down after 5-7 days though. Good luck! :)

Flourite needs to be rinsed for at least 30mins. I added another bag into my 55 gal rinsed for 40mins and never had a problem with cloudy water. Just run your pump and do some water changes and in a few days it will be good.

just run your filter and take out the filter media everyday and rinse it out. (i'm assuming that you dont have fish and that your tank isnt cycled yet) it'll take a couple days depending how bad it is.

problem is the more rinsing you do, the more of the "good stuff" you wash away...i've never washed mine for more than 10 minutes. when i fill the tanks, i just put a small bowl at the bottom and fill. some dust will kick up, but will clear within a couple hours.

WOW... mine isn't that bad haha... its still really cloudy but my light goes all the way to the bottom at least : ). I'm running two filters on it right now- an aqueon quietflow 30 and a whisper 10 so hopefully it should improve overnight tonight.. It has gotten a bit better because I can see a couple of inches past the gravel line now haha.

I agree with rinsing the filter media, I never rinsed my flourite, and it does clear up. Mine usually takes a day. It will cloud up a little when you add the plants, but not even close to what it does when originally put in the tank. Congrats on the tank.
