As I understand it, in general, keeping water temps higher will keep metabolisms higher, thus apparently they eat more and grow faster. My question is, is 76 degrees too low for 3 month old fry? Right now they are in a 10g @ 80 degrees, but they are about 1" so I was thinking of moving them to make room for others. I have a 20g that has a 50w heater in it, and the best I can do is 76-77. Will this be detrimental to them or is it OK?

No problem with that DrgRcr. Just remember to acclimatize the fishes properly to their new water, if the difference is of 3 or more degrees. Also be sure that the other water parameters are similar in both tanks and that their new tank is fully cycled.

lol i normally dont do that when i move fish from tank to tank at my house because the water conditions are all the same in the tank, except i forgot that i had heated my 55g for my cyprichromis to 82f. well i wanted to put a J. transcriptus in thier tank to add some biodiversity, so i just ploped him in forgeting the temp difference. my 30g that he was in is 69f!!!!!! he wasnt even phased though, which really surprised and relieved me. within 30mins he was swimming all over the tank and eating with no problems whatsoever. i made sure to acclimate the multies before i put them in after that.....

OK, thanks again. Water will be identical. The new 20g is partitioned right now because I was going to try and put 2 holding fish in there. I have sponge filters in both sides, but neither are cycled. I have some sponges in other tanks that I was going to try and use on/around the new ones to help them when I introduce the fish. I figure with fry, I'm doing water changes every 2-3 days anyway, so nothing can really build up in there. I'm waiting to find out about someone interested in the fry I want to move, so if that happens, I'll be back to just putting the holding mommas in the partitioned tank.

You have the plan, DrgRcr; go ahead with it!
Hey Austin, your julie was lucky; he could handle a 13 degrees difference, all of a sudden. Have an eye on him for the next 2-3 days, anyways.

Yeah, now I just have to go through the daunting task of catching them! I looked last night to find their hiding spots after lights out. It looks like my Fuelleborni mom will be catchable, but I can't find where my Afra mom hides!
