Will a 9" well fed common plecostomus and a 1.5" clown plecostomus eat Amazon Sword leaves?

And is this enough light for them?

Tank is 75 gallons.
Thanks :goldfish:

i don't have experience with those two types of plecos personally but most of the time the damage to plants by plecos is not from them eating the plants but from rasping on the plants to get the 'goodies' that tend to collect on them (algae, etc).

my lil bristlenose makes the odd lil hole in my huge amazon sword, but as long as there's no algae, i don't mind! lol.

As BettaFish said, plecos don't actually eat the leaf - but mostly feed on any algae that may grow on the leaves - and in the process, making cute little polka dots in the leaves. I don't keep plecos anymore but I do know that the gold nugget plecs can do a serious number on some plants. :)

If you love them that much, I would give the plants a try. :) It's difficult to generalize a whole species of fish. Each individual fish, depending on the environment it was cultured in, can be different.

Try the Amazon Sword. Even if it gets holes, atleast you tried and will still have your cute plecs. :)

And awww...your plecos are adorable. I think you could even try giant vals and anubias?

I'm getting anubias as well, Stargazer. And thanks for the advice :)

And I read that plecos normally leave anubias alone

If you are worried about a placo damaging your plants you check into possibly keep ottos or SAE's as they dont damage plants.

Hi All
I happen to have a very well planted 90 gal. with 1 Clown and 1 Sailfin Pleco. I have quite a few Amazons in there and they seem absolutely fine. The odd pea-sized whole here and there but the plants keep thriving.

i have a couple of anubias in my tank and my lil pleco leaves them alone. they are a tougher plant so perhaps they'd stand up better to the rasping even if your plecos were to graze on them.

another thing you could do is feed your plecos a little more, and that might cause them to rasp less on the plants.
