5 g tank advice

hi all,

after finally setting up my 20g tropical tank, everything seems to be going ok (fingers crossed)

I've been given a 5 gallon tank and a Fluval 1 filter.

at the moment, its all cleaned up and set up behind me, filter running etc

I havent got a heater or light yet but i'm not sure what to put in it

I was thinking of a couple of goldfish (which will mean no heater) but any suggestions?

I fancy something a bit different in there but i am wary about the size may stop me from putting certain species in it.

Well goldfish really need much bigger. They require a min. of 10 gallon per fish and that really isn't much as they can get to be 12 inches or longer and should live to be 20 years old or more.

If you want a coldwater fish that stays small you could try a few white cloud minnows. Very pretty and like the temp in the upper 60's to low 70's.

Otherwise I have my 5 gallon setup for my betta with some freshwater ammano shrimp and some snails and lots of plants.

If you wanted something a little different i am setting a 5 gall up for a crayfish

I've got 2 small (1" apiece) ryukin's in my 5 gal. If I can find my digital cam, I'll take a pic or two or three. When they get bigger, they'll be moved to a bigger tank, or my pond for summers, and a big tank for winters.

I had a self sustaing 5g for several years. Just had a blue crayfish and a tiny school of guppies (that feed on algae and in turn provide a steady enough amount of food for the crayfish through reproduction).

My bettas love their 5G tanks.
