I'm speaking about this product:

They work great on my power filters, but the way most powerhead intakes are tapered, I'm unsure how secure a fit it is. If you're using them with powerheads, let me know which brand/model you're using and how well the prefilter fits on it.

I know that wouldn't work on my power head but if it did that would be amazing!

Mine came with adapters to fit most round tubes, it was just a matter of figuring out which fittings on 2 different sizes of intakes. Powerheads are made to go on most UGF tubes.

The #3 size fits a maxijet 400, I just checked for you

A little pricey at $7 plus shipping, but a really great concept and idea especially for those using power-heads with no filtration or UV pump pre-filter.

Yes, I realize they come with adapters, I have a bunch of them after all. I was just wondering how snug a fit they are with powerhead intakes, since some brands are tapered in a way that would seem like the prefilter wouldn't fit on securely.

Good to know the Maxijet works for you though.

Looks like they have enough adapters that come with. But if they don't I have found that I can connect just about any hose of plastic intake/discharge port by using simple lawn and garden black rigid 1/2" or 5/8" diameter plastic tubing. Very inexpensive about $3 for 25-feet and the associated elbowns and T fittings are also inexpensive and can be used to mate all sorts of custom fittings and adapters. But the tubing is excellent for making adapters, extensions and spray-bars.

Again, it's not the diameter sizes I'm worried about, it's the shape of the powerhead's stem adapter, as well as the limited height of each level (or notch?) of the stem.

I am running a powerhead on a Hydor 6 sponge filter.
Bought the filter at kensfish for about $6
powerhead was laying around here.
