Well I pulled a holding Afra mom out of my main tank last night in hopes of good timing and having her spit naturally in a holding tank. Worked like a charm as usual, but she only spit 5 fry. I know that was it because I threw a few pellets in and she ate. So now I'm wondering if it's worth it to keep 5 or make them a breakfast snack and hope for a bigger brood later to make it more worthwhile. Decisions, decisions.

Hmm....I think quality over quantity. Since you have the holding tank set-up already, why not raise these five babies and add any future broods thereafter? I would give the few babies a chance. Who knows? They may end up being super looking fish. :)

Might as well give them a shot.. could be the best 5 fry you get....
I'd love a shot at raising some fry...

Yeah i agree don't waste them unless you just can not place them.. They will be your best due to being the first and then the genetic pool starts to degrade..

I think you should keep them and they will also be easier to take care of because there is less of them so you can feed them all equally.

Yeah, I've decided to keep them and raise them big enough to sell them. I did some jockeying last night. So now I have them in a 5.5g, and 18 rusty fry in a 20g with a separator. The Rusties are 2 groups of 9, one brood about 2 months older.
Here's a pic of the Afra parents.
