Cons will breed with you if you gave them half a chance!LOL Actually, they are similar to guppies in that they are very prolific and color (pink or black) doesn't matter. Conspecific aggression is common and when one won't mate for some reason, it becomes the target that usually results in death. This is very common when they are over-crowded or stressed.

Odd, Never had such problems with convicts. Perhaps, male wasnt being a good father???
Either that or she just wants to be a single MOM??? LOL!
How many males have you lost to female's aggression?

What other fish are in the tank, Convicts are known for turning on each other after spawning when no other fish are present in the tank. I had a Male almost kill a female after spawning because they were the only ones in the tank.

The problem is when no other fish are present in the tank they start to see each other as intruders and defend the fry from each other.

If you have no other fish in the tank, add in like 6-10 giant danios depending on your tank size, maybe add in a pleco or something that can take the aggression they give when protecting the fry.
