The instructions for Bettamax say not to use it if copper is present in the aquarium water. Aquarisol has soluable copper salts in it. Both have been recommended in various places on the internet for preventative treatment / conditioning of betta tank water. Can they be used together and if not which would you recommend and why?

Thanks, Steve

I am not familiar with Aquarisol, but am currently using the Bettamax for a fungus problem with my daughters betta "Bluestar". It does say on the box that it can be used as a "preventative tonic" for water changes.

Personally, I see no reason to use it for such a purpose. If you keep up on your water changes using a conditioner, test your water parameters regularly and feed your betta a quality food (and snacks occasionally), you shouldn't have a problem.

I don't believe in medicating for no reason (and I believe Bettamax is a medication) .

The following link is to an interview with John Farrell Kuhns, the inventor of Amquel and NovAqua:

At one point he distinguishes between chelated and free or citrated copper, noting that NovAqua removes free copper. An editor's note states that Aquarisol is chelated copper.

The interview is an interesting read.
