I'll toss one out there.

First, the particulars.

100 Gallon aquarium

Residents: 1. White spotted Moray eel
1. Snowflake Moray eel
1. juvinile humu trigger fish
1. Old salt of a Hermet crab (My personal janitor)

General Diet: Formula 1. & Formula 2. (No live food is ever offered for obvious reasons)

The annoyance: Forseen unmanagable size of the white spotted moray.

This is a fairly tough tank. The residents are all (With exception of the crab) skilled predators. The issue is my desire to crank down algae growth. The solution being clear, better filtration. the Issue, aggression of the white spotted eel, affectionately named Elmo by my daughter, this eel, herein called "Elmo" demands to be fed 4 times a day and is the fastest growing of the residents. In desire to slow his growth rate, I've often fed him less, this of course presents the following problem. He will persue relentlessly the trigger fish in hopes to catch, kill and consume it. When he is allowed to eat until satisfied, he is quite a peaceful resident of my aquarium. Both eels will permit human interaction. Such has been the case since these eels were aquired. The snowflake moray, hereinafter known as "Smiley". Smiley was captive bred. Elmo was captured by my daughter's mother (Professional marine collector, this is an advantagious relationship!) in the waters off Marathon, Florida as a juvenile.

Long term: It is clear that "Elmo" will demand such feedings to "keep the peace", and in doing so, is growing rapidly, and it is easy to see he will grow to unmanagable size within the next year forcing me to build a much larger facility for him.

The questions:

Who here also keeps morays?

Of those that keep morays, who here besides me keeps the White spotted moray? (Gymnothorax moringa)

For the eel keeper: What do you do to manage growth and food proportions while managing aggression?

Welcome to Aquaria Central! I keep 3 Morays currently and they are a Black Ribbon Eel (in avatar), Ghost Ribbon Eel, and Zebra Moray. What size is your eel? My Ribbons eat every other day while the Zebra eats twice a week. They all eat till they can eat no more and no problems with aggression at all. They are all 3 feet long a piece and the Ribbons haven't grown since I've had them but the Zebra I got two years ago and within the first year he grew a foot and he has grown slower now. I would suggest trying to just feed him once a day till he is full then leaving a few extra pieces on the ground so he can nibble if hungry. It is not good for morays to be fed so frequently so I would suggest trying to back them off. Anyway, hope this helps.
