Hey, I was surprised when I couldn't find these addressed anywhere. Americanaquariumproducts.com STRONGLY endorses them but I don't know anyone with firsthand experience, do you?

I've never used them myself, but have heard nothing but good output from people and stores in my area.
If I'm not mistaken, SHO stands for Super High Output, in the same vein as NO/HO/VHO. It's a type of screw-in compact fluorescent bulb, though I'm not sure what the difference between a SHO bulb and a regular one is.
Looks like its just a standard spiral CFL with a higher wattage. Your still looking at a lot of restrike.
Yah, it's just a CFL for aquariums but with a good reflector you could still get alot of light into the tank.
would be ok for smaller tanks but on smaller tanks i would just get a normal hood and put cfl bulbs in there. i am sure its cheaper. in larger tanks really even with so called good reflectors still better to get reg t5 or cf less restirke.
