I have a Crowntail Betta that I would like to move to another tank for awhile. Since he's got such "flowing" fins, I don't want to injure them while transporting him. I think that the net would damage them.
Any other ways? I thought about "sucking" him into a mason jar when he comes to the surface to feed. Good idea or Bad?

The net may damage his fins, but not much, and if he is healthy they should be repaired quickly. The mason jar idea is good, its quick and won't hurt him, so you can try that one. Another thing that may work, but make sure your hands are clean, and don't was them with soap, just hot water. Many bettas will let you put your hand under them in the water and then you can just lift your hand up out, betta and all, and put them into the mason jar or whatever you were gonna use.

i've been on the beta fish web site and they always recommend scooping them up in a cup. as the net can catch on fins, i've had a net catch on a goldfish before and trust me it's not a very nice expericne.

Got Him!
I used a mason jar and waited till he came into range and then "WHOOSH"----- sucked him right up.
He was not too happy
But now he is swimming in cleaner, cycled water.
Now, time to do some cleaning in his tank...... There's nasties in there.

what size tank do you keep him in, any filter e.t.c i've head you can keep them in a good sized vase and they would be happy is this true?
nope not true...the become dull and boring but you give them room to swim with good water and they'll use it. My betta is in a 4ft tank community and he loves it.
I would say 2 gallons minimum in order to have an interesting betta. 5 gallon is better IMO and mine looks great compared to the ones I kept in a 1 gallon tank. Plus you can see them better and they can have buddies like snails and shrimp.
I always use the tupperware scooping technique to remove my betta. Works great as they can swim against currents very well with those big fins.
