So finally my disability payment has been released for payment. I'm about to start buying stuff for my tanks.

For my 18 gallon I'll be buying a Coralife f/w t5 24" double bulb setup $50 from a local fish store, along with a 18" piece of drift wood $10, root tabs, and starting to plant it with some Java Moss 3 handfulls for $5 which will be strung to the driftwood until it attaches itself, 6 Italian Val for $2 ea., and 1 Amazon sword for $4. I'll be making a DIY co2 with a 2 liter bottle and air diffuser, and a Ehiem 2213 Canister filter.

Fish stocking for 18 gallon
7 Neon Tetras
3 Otto Algae Eaters
3 Peppered cory catfish
3 Zebra Nerite Snails
1 German Blue Ram (male)

55 Gallon will be 48" Nova Extreme HO t5 double bulb lighting, 18" piece of driftwood, new Theo Hydor 300watt heater, and a new Eheim 2213 canister filter to put with my Jebao 912 4 stage canister. Will be ordering some Taiwan Moss $20 for a good amount to attach to the driftwood and main ceramic ornament, 14 Corkscrew Vals at $2 ea., Brazilian Sword Micro Grass $20 for 10 pieces, 2 Cabomba Plants $3 ea., 6 Java Ferns $3
ea., good amount of Glossostigma Elatinoides to help in the front, some Anubias at $3 ea., 3 Banana Aquatic plants, 10 Nesaea pedicellata 'Golden', and some Ceratophyllum worts plants.

55 gallon fish stocking
15 Rummynose Tetras
6 Peppered Cory Catfish
5 Zebra Nerite Snail
3 Black Veil Angel Fish
2 German Blue Rams (male/female)
2 SAE's

Let me know what you think of these stocking and equipment ideas, feel free to add in your opinions or if you know of some good plants to match this setup.

Looks pretty good to me. A few comments though:

18 gallon tank:
Is that T5 or T5HO lighting and more importantly, how many watts over your tank?

Personally, I would ditch the Otos for three more Corys. Corys are at their happiest when they have a group of at least five to play with. The more you add, the more fun they are to watch!
(On a side note: if you get your lighting correct, you shouldn't need the algae eaters in the first place.)

Julii Corys are a good option too. I think they stay a bit smaller than the Peppered Corys.

As long as your Ram doesn't bully anyone in the tank you should be fine with that setup.

55 gallon tank:
This tank seems to be setup a bit better.

I've never tried housing Angels and Rams in the same tank but I'd be wary of it. No sense in having one bullying the other.

You have picked out a mix of low light and high light plants. Make sure to carefully pick the spots to plant these because you could "burn" the more sensitive plants or starve the more demanding plants depending on their placement.

I've never used that exact filtration setup so make sure to ask around for an opinion on that one.

Good luck!

I have a couple nets, python gravel vac, and a master test kit from api. The lighting on the 18 gallons is this one here

As for housing Angels with Rams Ive done it in the past without any issues or aggression.

The 55 gallon lighting is this here -
48" x 5-1/2" Freshwater; 108 watt, CD-29700
$134.99 $107.99

I emailed the guy, and he's holding what I want til sunday for me when I can come by and pick it up. I love guys like this who clear out their entire stock of driftwood and stuff, makes it easier for me to locate stuff I cant find in stores.

Well I got my $700 disability this morning, will be ordering quite a few things online from drsfostersmith and bigalsonline, I need a 48" Nova Extreme t5 HO light from drs, some eco comeplete for drs, and getting new Eheim 2213 canister filters from bials. I'll be placing an order with my local fish store for certain plants I cant find anywhere else, so it'll be a great weekend spending money lol.

Ok just got off the phone with drsfostersmith customer service and ordered my 48" Nova Extreme t5 ho double bulb lighting, and the Nova Extreme 24" t5 lighting for my tanks, I decided to do ahead and order some eco-complete 20lbs for my 18 gallon tank too. Spent $205 on everything, the lighting isn't available til the 28th, but it's ok.

Tomorrow I'm going to a LFS and placing an order for all my plants, except they can't get Taiwan moss, so I'll order that online. Spending around $100 on all the plants. I'm good to go, Sunday I'll be picking up my driftwood from a guy here in town who has a huge selection at cheap prices.

Now to hit the local store for baker yeast to set up my DIY co2 systems for my tanks.
