Trimming Bacopa caroliniana

What is the best way to trim Bacopa caroliniana (and other similar plants like
Rotala Macrandra) when the leaves thin out and get old at the stem base? Do you uproot the plant and replant the upper fuller newer growth involving the upper part of the plant? Should you leave the old root system in the substrate? If you trim the stem near the base will new leaves appear?

In my experience, it can get very "leggy," as the plants grown and block light from the lower leaves.

Agreed. If you want the plants to be more bushy, then do the above and then cut the tips off until the stems produce additional sprouts. As the plant grows taller, you can cut the plant right below this area and replant or simply just separate the new stems from the main stem. After some time, this will multiply the total number of stems you had to begin with.
