A good LFS, New World Aquarium, is close to Grand Central on 204E 38th St.
There are also some nice stores in Chinatown. Not the best selection, but you can't beat their prices.

There's a pretty complete one -- a chain -- can't remember which -- on Union Square. Good one called Fish Town way out in Flushing, on Northern Boulevard near Francis Lewis Parkway. Large selection both fresh and salt. Another in Flushing proper, also on Northern Boulevard at Main Street -- salt water selection better than fresh. A Petland with good catfish collection on Northern Boulevard near Marshall's. Coral Aquarium in Jackson Heights on Roosevelt at 75th is a regular stop for me.

New World Aquarium as already stated is an awesome store, easily my favorite. Always have very healthy fish and plants at reasonable prices.

Is New World located on a corner near a bridge? If so, the time I went, all they had were community/pool/cichlids. Wasn't impressed at all but then again I wasn't looking for those types.

There are three stores I know of in Manhattan China Town. One is on Houston Street near the bridge to Brooklyn on the east bound side of the Street. It sells a variety of fish and is a decent size store. The other two I know of are on Mott Street. They are on the south bound side of Mott Street a few blocks from Houston towards China Town. These two stores are not as big and carry 80% Flowerhorns at price ranging from under $10 to over $1000, but most are in the $100 to $500 range.

No, new world is not near a bridge and not on a corner.

not Houston street, its Delancy

Pacific Aquarium
Delancy between Eldridge and Chrystie streets

A nice one in the middle of the block, and a nice place with few selections on the corner:
Mott Street between Grand and Broome streets

Aquastar
Mulberry between Grand and Broome (the other side of the block as those above)

New World is near the Mid-Manhattan tunnel i think, between 2nd and 3rd avenues @ 38th street

Petco on Union Square
