Hi Friends,

I was just planning the design for the hood of my new tank and just wanted to request you friends for a few clarifications -

The hood will be a normal box shaped one made with a half inch plywood. It will be supported by the tank's glass sides using the normal wooden strips - hope I've explained this correctly...

I want to use the Top Filter that is shown in this thread of mine- http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=199421 on this tank and I plan to make the necessary provisions in the hood, so that I can place this filter directly on the hood.

I think this filter should weigh around 20 to 30 Kgs or may be more ( because of the filter media, water etc) and just wanted to know if Its ok to place so much weight of the Hood made of half inch plywood.

Will it be safe and will the hood bear the weight or is it dangerous ?

Kindly guide me Friends...
Thanks and Regards
Kush

20-30 kg? so liek 40-60 lb.. that seems like it would be a bit of an over estimate, but over is better than under I suppose. The 1/2 plywood will hold the weight, the area that will be in question will be your fasteners. But as long as you used stadard nails and screws, not finishing nails, or ultra fine screws you should be ok there too.
As far as putting the filter on top of the the hood, if I understand correctly, won't you run the risk of soaking your lights if there is a leak or an overflow? A plugged up outlet or even just old media quickly leads to the filter overflowing in my tank- with an eclipse 2 hood- which is very similar to that design, the only difference is the lights and filter media are on the same level, instead of one being over the other.
