i have a big calico bristlenose boy in a heavily planted/heavily driftwooded 55g with 4 others. The first day in he claimed a spot underneath this rock/driftwood arrangement and lately he has been getting in and and laying upside down. just shifting around to a comfortable position upside down. i thought he was sick but upon closer inspection, i noticed his fins were moving and fanning himself like he was hot. is he sick? tank temp is about 74-75. consistently.

i really have no idea, as i do not know the breeding habits of BN's but is it possible u have female BN's and there are eggs in there that he's fanning?

I've seen my males do that as well.

does it mean there are eggs or is it just one of their quirky qualities?

It's normal. My male does it all the time as well. Below are a couple old pics of him doing it..

My male does that all the time under his driftwood...I think it's so the other fish know he's alive & to leave him alone, LOL.

They are made of marble slate. A member from another (local) forum made them. She does a really great job on them and my plecs love 'em. Unfortunately, she moved out of the country and hasn't been heard from since, so I can't get any more.

sorry to go off topic, why not just make them, what did she use to hold them together silicone?

Yeah, silicone.
And I WOULD make them, if I trusted myself with power tools! lol
Seriously though, I would probably mess it up. And I like how neat she made them. A lot of the other ones I've seen people making look like they were just thrown together quickly. The cut's on her's are all even and the silicone isn't just glopped (sp?) on there all over the place.
Sorry to hijack your thread crimsonmoon :o
