The molly looked healthy and all was well when I purchased her. She had a healthy appetite was swimming all over etc. Then she gave birth. A day or so after she had her babies she she started to look like she had a whitish film covering her. Now 4 days later she still looks the same and her eyes seem to have a slight whitish film as well. She hangs out at the top of the tank now, isnt really eating. She also looks like she cant move her tail a whole lot.

This all happend after she gave birth to about 40 babies. All other Black mollies and guppies are doing great and dont show signs of anything.
Also Not sure if she is supposed to look really skinny after giving birth, I would think so?

Also since I have Male guppies, corys, and plan to have some neons, would adding a tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons be bad for the other fish?

Any help would be great.

Could you take a picture? A picture would help a lot.

If it were just the eyes, I would've guessed that it was eye cloud. Have you separated the fish from the rest of your fish?

Unfortunately this sounds like Columnaris, which is a bacterial infection, but photos would help. A wite-ish film can be this, but also it can be excessive slime coat due to parasitic infestation.

Try to upload some photos as soon as possible.

You really do need to get her out of the tank with the others. She may have something that is very contagious.

Do you have anything you could use as a hospital tank?

Here is what I could get, you can see the whitish eyes, and blotches. I did not use a flash, any whitish blotches are on the fish. It has been transferred to my 30 gallon.

Wow, that last picture looks very much like Columnaris. Tell me, though, did you see her flashing or rubbing up against anything, like she had an itch. The photo is so blurry I want to rule out parasitic infestation, which can cause copious amounts of slime to be produced.

If not, I'd go on the assumption that it is Columnaris. You mentioned her caudal fin hardly moves. Columnaris can seem to paralyze a fish.

I'd bring the temperature slowly down to 76 degrees. Is the water in the hex brackish? I've never had Mollies, but I've read they like salt in their water. Salt can slow down the spread of Columnaris over the body, it may not do anything if it has gone internal.

Do you have any antibiotics?

Melafix is better than nothing, for the night. Although it is controversial I would go ahead and add the salt as you suggested.

Antibiotics are what is needed if indeed this is Columaris, and it does look like it to me. Kanaplex and Furan 2 are a combo that has been used with success, and another combo is Maracyn and Maracyn II, though I believe there have been some cases where resistance to those two has been the case.

No flashing or rubbing on anything. She appeared nice and healthy until after she gave birth. Then the blotchiness showed up hours later and just got worse. I have noticed the other mollies (2 to be exact) have rubbed on my gravel a few times in attempt to cure an itch. They also look fine physically, eat like pigs, swim normally. Maybe the batch I bought have an illness. I do have 2 out of the batch that are in the early and mid stages of pregnancy. I would hate to loose them before they give birth.

The temp in both my tanks are at 76. The water in the hex is fresh. The fish isnt doing well,I added the Melafix earlier. She is barely breathing and everyminute or so giving one last burst of energy. I woudl say within the hour she will be dead.

The only thing I have is the Melafix. I have 5 other mollies, and dont want to put them under stress as it only semed to make the one worse.

I would like to treat all my fish in my 125. If I treat my fish with Kanaplex and Furan 2 will it harm the unborn babies from the other two mollies?

I did some reading on the disease you mentioned. I am going to keep a eye out for any signs... I am going to do a waterchange tomorrow, normally I remove 25 gallons.. Should I stay with that, or remove more. From what I read, waterchnages will help out alot to prevent the disease. If I have to treat, copper was also recommended.
