Good Morning Fish Fans!

I have an Aptasia Outbreak and would like to know if anyone has a suggestion or tried and true method of control or irradication of them. I was advised that Perpermint Shrimp are effective, however, I already have a Banded Coral Shrimp that I am quite attached to.

I also had a Copper Banded Butterfly Fish that was recently added, however did not adapt well and died. He wasn't in then tank long enough to monitor any progress in the control of the aptasia. My store is replacing him, however have not yet got him.

Hoping someone has further suggestions on Aptasia Control!

Sincerely ~ Deberah

Not many "sure fire" ways of killing them. One method is to get a tiny needle, like used for insulin, and put in a waterly kalkwasser mix and stab the aiptasia and inject them with it. Simply putting it on their mouths rarely kills them. The other 2 options require you to take the rock out of the tank. 1 is to just try and scrub them off in a bucket with a stiff brush, or the extreme method have seen people do is to take the rock out and use a high pressure washer (like at a car wash) to blast the rock clean, but that option requires you to recure the rock afterwards.

Or take the rock out light your torch and start burning. One sure "Fire" way of removing them.

joes juice does an okay job

interesting ace. i didn't know that. but i am sure a lot of people didn't know that either. i found a couple of aptasia in my tank and what i did was i filled up a syringe with burning hot water and i squirted it in to there mouth and it took only one time to never seen them ever again

I used joe's juice for the 1st time last week.

It works, however, you really gotta add lots of the stuff on the anemone in order for it to die, or it'll curn up for a few days and eventually heal itself.

Next time I'll try injecting directly (as ace suggested)

I used to have a reef tank a few years back and I killed 2 of them by injecting lemon juice.
