My wife went to the LFS today and came back with a Blood Parrot. We have 2 BP's already that get along great, but the new on is a different story. It has torn fins that are begining to regrow, missing scales and big black blotches and spots. If I had been there with her we never would have brought it home due to all the damage.
So she decided to let you guys vote on it.

He is cute and I bet he will improve rapidly in your care! His black blotches should also disappear fairly quickly. I think he's lucky your wife brought him home :) :) :)

My vote is: "CUTE!" Your other BP doesn't look like it has the beak mouth they usually have, does it? They are both super cute.

I really hope the aggression clears up by tomarrow, that will be the deciding factor. She was supposed to go pick up a striped Raphael Catfish for me, but she didn't like it. I ended up with a spotted Raph instead, and this.

I think it's gorgeous & if I were there, I would have saved him myself!

Yea, that one has a beak, my smaller one had its top lip riped off and looks a little goofy from the front but I don't have any good pics of it.

Thanks for all the replies, good or bad. Now my wife likes to rub it in my face that more people agree with her. It still wasn't getting along with one of our other BP's so its in the 29 with my convict pair. Its alot easier to treat 29 gallons of water than 75. I use stress coat at waterchanges and I have been dosing some salt and melafix so the damage should start healing soon, part of its tail had begun to regrow before she brought it home so the outlook is good. part of the large black blotch faded on top of its head. After it is healed I will try to introduce it back to the main tank and see how that works.

Steve, dont complain. You are lucky to have a wife who takes an interest in your hobby. I have two major hobbies and my wife couldnt care less about either one of them. I wish she would take enough interest so as to even want to bring a fish home for me. No such luck here. lol.

Well, heres a 10 day update on the progress, its still in the 29 gal and is getting along great with the con's. Since the BP went in the tank they have laid eggs, and now we have 200 or so free swiming fry with no aggression.

Now

Tail fin is regrowing nicely, scales are filling back in, and the black patches are dissapearing. Still ugly, but getting closer to being healthy.
By the way, my wife named it Quazi Moto.

I voted cute as well. If the wifey bought/chose the fish - it's a keeper. :)

Ugly, but I just don't get the whole BP and/or balloon fish trend. Breeders used to cull those deformities but now breed for it?? Not for me.

 Personally, hybrids aren't my cup of tea but beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. That's a face only a 'mother' could love but that's JMPO. Some breeds are an acquired taste. My wife loves my Striped Raphael but thinks the Royal Knife is 'weird' looking. Go figure!!?? "T"

I had one I loved it. The black spot usually means they are stressed. He had a great personality

Very cute! I have always had a soft spot for BP's. About 2 years ago, I bought a pair of them. They laid eggs every three weeks like clockwork, but obviously, they never hatched. But they were persistent!

For some reason I am personally against them. Could be that because they are hybrids and unnatural I feel that way. But hey, whatever floats your boat!

I think he's a good looking fish and I'm sure he'll get better. I was given a paratheraps hybrid that was being attacked by a red devil, and he's much better now I treated him with melafix.

Wow! Those are some great looking bp's! Why was he covered in black scales in the beginning. I thought it was like a birthmark type thing.
