Anyone know why on Petmountain.com they have a section for Old Style Visi-Therm Stealths and New Style ones?

Here's the link. http://www.petmountain.com/product/...nd-visi-therm-stealth-submersible-heater.html

I am looking to buy a heater for my 29g tank. Right now it has a 250watt heater in it that I stole from my 40gal but I think that is waaaaaay overkill and want to put that one back into my 40g because I am going to get some turtles eventually.

I was wondering if the Old Style is more reliable then the New Style ones. I know sometimes when they go with new styles on things and such they end up screwing something good up.

Edit: I just read on one of the reviews that the newer styles have a LED that tells you when they are on... I wonder what else they changed.

thats it... they now have the indicator light, as it was a major complaint from consumers that there wasnt one

Oh, and yea that is extreme overkill. U cant go by the manufactured rating. I run a 100w heater on both my 55g and my 40g. There are too many cases where the heater gets stuck on and if the wattage is high, like in your case, u will boil the fish alive. If mine sticks on, it will only get to about 85 or so depending on the outside temp... Too many fish deaths result from heaters that stick on.

The old visi-therm plastic are being discontinued, primarily due to issues of the plastic bubbling and due to the lack of the led. I believe the new ones are made with a different plastic also. They seem stronger also.

From looking at the link, it seems the new style is shorter than the old style. I love that they have the light now.

Years ago they all had a light...then do to complaints and requests, they took out the light and added a tougher casing that wasn't glass...ie...Stealth. Too many large fish keepers wanted a heater that the fish didn't attack as the light went on and off.

is it now called the stealth pro? I just ordered from www.kensfish.com both the pro & the deluxes among other things. so far so good.

yupp we started upgrading all of ours. as much as i like my original stealth i liked the new ones better.

Dr fosters currently has the heaters on sale. I am replacing some of my older stealths as they are actually beginning to fail.

I have had issues with the stealths as of late and want to see if the newer style is more reliable.
I am also trying the new , improved visi therm ..these in the past have been a miserable performer for me. with 2 of 5 not heating correctly or not shutting off.
they should arrive this friday or possibly monday.
we shall see
