Hi Friends,

Need your help Urgently - I just noticed that all this while, Iron Rust Solution is entering and is getting mixed with my tank water - can it harm and kill my frontosas?

Actually the carpenter did a big mistake and he used these hundreds of tiny little Iron Nails to fix the plastic sheet all around the inside of my tank hood, to protect the wood from moisture. I just noticed that all the nails are rusting heavily ( because of the splashing and evaporation ) and drops of this rust solution is falling into and is getting mixed with the tank water.

I think I havent noticed any problems so far ( no fish deaths or stressed fish ) because the tank is 212 Gallons. But I dont want to take any risk and want to know if this can be dangerous ? Can it poison and kill my fishes ?

Please also guide me on what should I do to avoid this - I cant really remove all the nails as there are hundreds of them all over...

Please help me Friends...
Regards
Kush

I don't think they have used iron nails for the last 60 years on furniture but I use allot steel finisher (tiny) nails in my canopy to restore and rebuild it. None of my nails are rusting first becasue they are embedded 1/4 inch into the wood and filled over with wood putty (sawdust & Elmer's glue), and second becasue it was stained and then made water resistant with Polyurethane.

Remove that plastic, get yourself a punch and hammer and drive those headless nails in under the surface of a wood just a little, wood putty and sand the inside clean and Polyurethane the inside letting it cure for about a week before using it.
