ok how long on avg do you think it takes to see some growth on the fins after recovering from fin rot?

I know I read on a betta breeders' site that one should see regrowth in a couple weeks. I would guess the same would hold true for most fish (?) but I'm really not sure.
My tetars never regrew. A year latter and they still look all ripped and torn. But it doesn't seem to stop them. I guess it might have something to do with how much damage the rays or spines suffered as opposed to just the fleshy tissue.

Hi, this is my first post here.
I have 4 gouramis in a 20 gal. With in about a week of getting them I noticed one had gotten some pretty bad fin damage. (most likely from argueing about who's the baddest?)
1 male / 3 females and nobody likes nobody!
My LFS recommended MelaFix made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals.
I've never seen anything work like this stuff before!
It was probably within the first week that I noticed a major improvement. So I don't know if it would work on something(fins) that have possibly healed the way there going to already or something? But it would be worth a try.
Oh yea, and one of it's barbs was half gone too.
Thats the only way I can tell which one it is anymore, because its a little crooked were it was bitten(?) off.

from what i've read on posts here -
if the infection gets to the spine or bones of the fish the fins may never regrow - however if treated before then , the fins will fully recover-yes melefix is great at growing fins and repairing wounds

I had some guppies and ones tail got completely picked off by another fish. I solved the problem and within a couple of weeks he had a pretty nice tail going. I didn't use any melafix or anything, but i've heard some good things about it. He ended up getting whipped up on again because he just kept picking at the tiger barbs and they got tired of it. He wasn't very smart... he didn't make it...

Generally, the fins will almost always grow back. Regrowth will depend really on temperature, food, and how stressed the fish is. If the finrot got up to the body of the fish, then you can expect the fin never to grow back there; if it does, it's a nice little surprise :).

I had a vacuuming accident with my Gold Gourami and cut off his tail at the base. OH FLET SO BAD! :( His tail completely grew back! It is darker in cloro than before, but the gourami is just fine. His tail grew fast and I could see new grouth in two ir thee days. Your fish should begin healing immediately with new growth...
