So I live in south florida (hallandale beach), I am a 5 minute walk from the beach and a close drive to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

now, because I live here is there anything I can take advantage of? i.e. gathering seashells, water? or anything else?

Water, sand shells, and rock can be collected if it is washed ashore (not from jetties), but assuring whether or not it is safe to use is another issue. Last I checked, however, there are strict laws regulating what else can be collected in the state of Florida. Your best bet for the legality regarding such collection is to look here: http://myfwc.com/

Always use real salt water if you can. Also sand is always better when free from nature. LOL Maybe sea shells but they may be better off in the ocean.

I would make my own water,NSW is cheap, but what about all the crap youre getting with it.I live in Bermuda and we have some of the best beaches too.I dont collect anything near the island.I go out about 2 miles for sand and rock. The only thing I get from the rocks and beach are CUC.

Hmmm i disagree if you filtered out your water or let it sit you could do it.

I think about the time it takes to collect, the time it takes to travel, the time it takes to clean....its not worth it..RO-DI is the way to go.you dont have to do anything except mix salt with water and drink beer.

well i guess if you dont live on the beach then its to hard.

Fishfriend, that is very bad advice. Never take NSW from the shore, it is the worst type of water possible, same with the sand, pollution is at its worst at the shores. Going out 2 miles is the key to getting good water. If you let it "sit out" it will only make the water even worse from all the living things in the water dying off.

Read this, this is the NSW source for my area:

Ace is absolutely right. You will wreak havoc on a tank using saltwater from near the shore. If your going to use water from the ocean you must go out to get it. Inhabitants...that is another story, use what you find, but I would QT anything you decide to get for at least a month just to make sure its not going to do any harm.

i thought that real salt water was the best. Ace i should have thought that out a little more but well im not a good think. LOL
