I ordered 6 panda cories for one of my community tanks. They arrived before lunch, so rather than leave them in the box I went home and spent the lunch hour acclimising and adding them. The tank only has a few endlers in it so I didn't worry about QT.

They seemed fine when I left but when I got home 4 are dead, one is listless and any one looks healthy and active. Aargh! I checked the water params and temp is fine and there is no ammonia. I got US bred because I thought they would be more robust.

Any ideas what whent wrong? They arrived alive and were gone within 4 hours!

As it happens I got 8 aspidoras for my other tank off the same truck and did exactly the same thing--and they are all fine!

Ouch, that's a bummer.....What steps did you take to acclimate? How big is the tank? What's the temp? What's the pH? Is your nitrite also at 0?

I did the acclimitising by dripping in tank water to a container before adding them to the tank--but it was rushed as I had only an hour to do it. The nitrites are zero. I did wonder if they might have got chilled, as the aspidoras who look very perky came overnight, the pandas did not so they were about two days in transit. But they did look okay in the bag and came with a heat pack in an insulated box....

Was the heat pack still warm?

Panda cories don't have a good shipping track order. Sorry to hear Psyche, I've had bad batches and perfect ones.

The heat pad wasn't warm but the water in the bags wasn't all the way cold. I still have one who looks very well--the other one might be in the plants somewhere--I hope. If one or both of them make it I guess I can pick up a couple of peppered corys from the lfs to keep company with--I wouldn't risk ordering them online again.

On the up side the aspidoras are kickass. I love them.

let me get this: you opened the bag, then acclimated by dripping water into the bag that they were already in? pandas are actually cooler temp cories.

They were in breather bags so I poured them into a gallon jar and topped up with tank water and brought them upto to tank temp (75 degrees). The thermometer said they were at a bit under 60 degrees on arrival. On the up side I definitely have two alive and kicking, one about and inch long and one about 2/3 of an inch. They seem fine now and hanging out together.
