I have 3 angels (would like to post pics shortly). I had noticed 2 of them their black markings turn a rich dark color & their cap a deeper orange color. then one nite I see eggs on my intake tube. both were fanning like proud parents but also both would shoosh the other away a times.

alas, next day they were gone - eaten for breakfast.

but I don't know their sexes. any help?

also, the eggs were not fertilized as they were all translucent.

I had raised angel fry in the past long ago where they got to point of being wigglers & some free swimmers but was not experienced enough to save them. the parent then one had a long tube sticking out - was still not sure if it was the female & it was her tube to deposit the eggs, but it stayed extruded for awhile.

That is incorrect. It's only when they turn opaque white that you can tell that they haven't been fertilized. Eggs stay translucent, light amber in color, like most cichlid eggs when fertilized.

The female will have a thicker, more blunt tube and the male will have a more pointy, slender tube.
