I'm running two Eheim 2236's on a 40g. Since I replaced a filter pad in one of them yesterday, I've been hearing a running water sound from that 2236 (the sound you hear when you prime a canister filter). In the past, the sound quickly disappeared once the canister was full of water.

That 2236 doesn't release air bubbles or generate other types of noise. I just re-primed it and keep hearing the same water running sound. What is causing this?

If you have been running it a while without servicing the hoses they may be narrowed with debris limiting water to feed the pump, try cleaning your hoses by running a cable brush through them.

Also it could be that the top or bottom basked is too full and water us having a hard time passing through. Specifically the top basket needs some clearance.

I've also found you will get trapped air inside the canister which will cause this noise. Shaking your canister or tilting it from side to side will usually get the filter to expell the air. Then it should quiet down.

I rocked it several times and the sound went away!
