I was working in a classroom today setting up and maintaining their tanks and it made me start to think about the stuff I didn't have because i was not in my fishroom. What do you consider your most invaluable tool if you had to pick just one for maintaining your tanks?

python

Python, in general. For my planted tanks (anything bigger than a 15ish gallon anyway) my aquatic gardener tool with the interchangeable grabby end and scissor end makes me life SO much easier! I can barely reach to the bottom of my tank, and trying to pull dying leaves off plants like swords was a major pain. It makes the whole process much easier, plus I can replant plants with it, or put in root tabs, things like that.

Probably my python as well. Makes filling tanks super easy. I don't use it to drain them - I use a garden hose for that (free fertilizer and watering for my garden!), but refilling with buckets is a royal pain in the... well, you know. Python makes me happy. :)

My first 2 thoughts were already taken. I have both and love both.
Another thing I find very important is a temp probe. I use one you can buy for grilling. It's like a big fork, they might have better suited ones but it is very nice when doing water changes. Dip it in the tank wait 10 seconds for the temp to hone in and stabalize, walk over to sink turn the water on and get them to match then either start filling the buckets or turn the python on. Much more accurate then using your finger and guessing.

Other than a siphon and buckets (for clean and dirty water), I'd say a very soft toothbrush. I use them (each tank has its own) to get rid of the algae on the tank side right at the substrate level.
