My betta Charlie passed away this morning. So now my 10 gallon tank seems empty. There are 6 pygmy corys in the tank right now with a few snails. I was wondering if two dwarf gouramis be ok in a 10 gallon tank? There are some female and male dwarf gouramis at work that I'm interested in getting. I was thinking of getting either a pair of dwarf gouramis, another betta fish, or a few guppys (maybe 3 or 4).

I think you should be fine with a pair of dwarf gouramis in a 10 gallon. Is it planted? If not, you may want to provide some hiding spaces for the female. I once had a male dwarf gourami that bugged the female like no other. :)

I might even consider a male and two females, so that one poor female isn't constantly bugged by an aggressive male.

And I forgot in my original post - I'm completely sympathetic to the loss of your dear Charlie. I'm sure he had a great life under your care.

I do have some live plants in the tank. Although if a female dwarf gourami needs hiding places then I'll get more plants before I get them. I may get the female dwarf gourami first and then get the male when I get more plants. We don't get female dwarf gouramis in very often.

Will 3 dwarf gouramis be ok in a 10 gallon tank?
Thanks for the sympathy Stargazer53

I've done that before: with good filtration and water changes, water quality isn't a problem. And I had plenty of hiding places and broken lines of sight in the tank, so aggression wasn't an issue. But it's not a guaranteed success, either.

Well I got my female dwarf gourami today. She really seems to enjoy her new home. She's been swimming all of the tank already lol. Once she's gotten comfortable in her new home I'll get a male and see how things go. Worse comes to worse I can always seperate them. I could move the male to my 29 gallon community tank if I have to.

Here are picture of my female dwarf gourami: (sorry the 2nd picture isn't very good.)
