:jaw-dropping:
Southeastern US stares down icy, snowy weekend

(Associated Press)

"Nearly a foot of snow had fallen in parts of western North Carolina, and nearly 10 inches had fallen in some areas north of Memphis, Tenn. In Nashville, about a half-foot of snow was on the ground, the National Weather Service reported.

In mountainous western North Carolina, I-26 near Asheville and I-40 near Black Mountain were shut down Friday night after snow and icy roads caused multiple wrecks. Duke Energy reported about 35,000 outages in the state, mostly in the western mountains.
North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue declared a state of emergency Saturday, and 30 National Guard soldiers were standing by to help emergency crews.
Highway Patrol Trooper Gene Williams told the Citizen-Times of Asheville that 530 wrecks were reported overnight — including a snowplow that overturned — though no one was seriously hurt in the crashes. Virginia State Police said they worked more than 100 crashes overnight. As much as six inches of snow had fallen in southeastern parts of the state."

And to think, I left North Idaho to have an easier lifestyle! :screwy:
They (N.ID) have had less winter this year then NC??

Yea, I'm in Oklahoma. We just got that storm that you've got now. Oklahoma has never seen snow like we've seen the past month. My son lives in Concord, NC. I'd have kept it here if I could've! Sorry :-)

You guys getting a foot is worse than us getting that 42" a couple of weeks ago. Our roads were only down for about 12 hours. You guys will probably be snowbound for weeks.

I am 45 min NW of Nashville and we got about 5-6 inches. Main roads are fine but the side roads are terrible. The street dept put brine on all the major roads but not on the side roads. The main roads look like they may refreeze tonight with a low of 6F. Looks like I wont be going into work tomorrow.

Charlotte area got decent snow but I live 10 miles south and got about 3 inches of sleet. The roads are pure ice.I hate snow but I would rather have had the snow then the sleet.
