Hey everyone! So I just purchased a 45 gallon aquarium off someone on craigslist for literally $15. I got the tank, the stand, filters, heater, and a light. it was a must go! She told me that had to get rid of it because of their daughter. So here is a picture of the light on my 20 gallon to show for reference. I wanted to know if this light would be enough to sustain low light plants. Its just a cheap plastic light. Will it work for a planted tank or am I gonna have to spend $150 to get a better light kit.

I honestly dont know. I checked the bulb and it is just really old. I cannot find any numbers or letters on the bulb. I may just go buy a new one just because im worried this old thing is unsafe and not efficient.

Agreed, if you knew that'd be very helpful. You can probably grow Java Fern, Java Moss with it. They barely need any light at all. Buying a new bulb would be nice though if you can.

is the bulb full length on the tank? if so i'd think you could grow real easy plants... java fern, crypt wendti, java moss on a high point on a branch, anubias, some aponogetons and "dwarf lillies" for example.

if it gets indirect light from a window nearby that will help a lot also.
