So i have this white algae-like crap on my glass that kind of waves around with the current and sometimes flake even gets stuck to it. gleaning it with a brush is annoying because it comes back in a couple days and i dont have a mag-float(or at least not yet) so i dont like using it.
Anyways, what do you guys think is the best snail for eating crap off the glass? i dont want to have a tank overrun with snails so possibly a slow breeder or even a good enough eater to where i could only need one.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

Check out Nerite Snails. They don't breed in freshwater and will eat up tons of Algae. I have about 5 of them in my 38G and I dont' see algae build up, just some gunk and stuff. I'd recommend getting about 8 of them for a 36.

If you cant' find them, I'd recommend a MagFloat. Easily removes algae.

I like the Apple snails (Pomacea Bridgesii). They lay their eggs in big clumps conveniently just above the surface for easy removal and freezing if you don't want more, and if you do, you can just leave the egg masses. You'll want to make sure that whoever is sending them to you is sending Bridgesii, not canaliculata since the canaliculatas are restricted in several states and can eat plants.

why not find out the source of the 'white algae-like crap' and take measures to prevent it instead of getting critters to clean it up for you?
perhaps the water flow in the tank is not sufficient? maybe your underfiltering? overfeeding? dosing chemicals that are not necessary? all of those sorts of things need to be considered and corrected, IMO, instead of adding to the bioload of the tank and never really finding the source of the problem.

:iagree: The best solution to many problems is to find the cause and fix the cause rather than the symtom(s). This is one of those problems.

I misplaced my scraper one time and made do with an old (Clean though) spatula. Didn't do the best job but it worked in a pinch :P
