A zebra danio/glofish of mine seems to have developed a banana shaped body and is now presumed dead. Was laying around yesterday. I was not available to provide medical care or I would have setup a sick tank. Not even sure what I would have treated for.
I checked today and I don't see that one swimming around. IF I find the danio alive, I'll setup a sick tank today.
What possibly happened?, is it contagious and will it effect the other danios?.

Banana shaped? Zebra danios/glofish are prone to spine issues. Like this:

All kinds of possibilities - genetics, nutrition - but what you'll most read about when you Google bent spines in fish is fish TB/Mycobacteriosis, which is transmittable to humans as a skin infection. Don't let this appeal to your alarmist side and get you panicked - it's not a common disease, and is not likely to be the issue.

If you find it, probably best to euthanize it, since bent spines are not reversible.

Not sure how valid this is...maybe other members can help verify this

But I remember reading about one incident with a zebra getting a "U" shaped body and someone claimed that they do that when they are on their last legs

IE: Dieing of old age

Again I'm not sure how valid it is...

I don't think I've had these danios long enough for it to be old age.
