video of my 125g

i shot some video with my new canon s50. i used windows xp's movie maker program to reduce it from a 8.3m avi down to a 830K wmv file.

i'll try to get some better lit videos soon. this was one of my first attempts.

OMG that waroo is the nicest fish but in aus all the coolest fish are so expensive so id say they would be too:mad: :mad: do you just keep the one or a few as the show even better colour in groups.

Great video! You've got a lot of happy looking cichlids in there.

BTW: I seem to recall that you asked (in another thread, a couple of days ago) if anyone could identify your avatar. I don't know if anyone took up the challenge in that thread, but I'm prepared to take a guess. It might be from one of the Jurassic Park movies; a mood shot of a stalking dinosaur.

I'm gonna watch your movie again now :)

Edit: At the start of the movie, on the right edge of the screen, I think I see a shallow planter supported on pedestals of some sort. Do my eyes deceive me? I would think that largeish cichlids would regard this as a challenge to an excavation project to undermine it :D

now to answer some q's.

yes i have another Uaru but it's a little guy so i'm growing him out in a 20g long for a month or two to make sure he gets his fair share at dinner time. they are rare here too but usually not over $20. if i get a third uaru then it might become a uaru only tank. i guess they can get big, but they are pretty as adults.

yup petsmart stump. they have the best local price but they've recently gone up. hmm.

plants. the camera hides the beard algea. the planter is a pyrex baking dish with 4 amazon sword plant 'spiders' that came off a plant i picked up [at petsmart again]. the legs are pvc pipe glued on with silcone. i raised it up so it would be closer to the light. the beard algea seems to be slowing the growth of the plants but if they get as big as the monster sword on the left, i wouldnt have room for them.

i had a second planted pyrex dish but a breeding pair of convicts [now removed ] did exactly as you suggested and chucked all the gravel over the side.

there is also some tall grassy plant i dont know the name of. it shot some runners out and started replicating itself, but i have seen the Uaru snacking on it a couple times and it may well get eaten. i dont mind. just happy to give the Uaru something it enjoys.
