I just set up a new 10g tank with about 3" of red flourite, let the dust settle, and added 7 neons and 2 cories (tank is fully cycled).

The flourite was rinsed 2x and the corys are still stirring up a little dust. I intentionally did not overwash because i'll be adding plants soon.

Is the flourite dust detrimental to smaller fish? During cleaning and planting it will get stirred up again.

it hurts them when i first set up my flourite and moved the gravel around while planting - the water got very cloudy and it never bothered the fish - but i'm sure a fish expert can tell you if it actually harms the fish - i'm just sharing my experience :)

<<< not an expert, but maybe he'll come along...

I don't think its going to hurt them.
The only thing I can think of that it might hurt them inadvertantly, would be if it's sucking up oxygen or releasing toxins like some thing's do. But I don't believe it's doing either.
