I got a snail...

so i look in my tank and i see a little red thing on my glass... what do ya know, its a little baby snail. i havent added anything new to the tank except some rocks but they were dry for weeks and i saoked them in really hot water/bleach solution.

I looked at him through a magnifying glass and his shell is swirly like a mystery snail or apple snail.

So i guess my main question is can snails just appear in your tank from nowhere??? hes only about and eigth inch at most.
 
no they have to come from somewhere, lol. Do yo have other tanks running? plants? new fish ordered from a hobbyist?
 
i added 4 bloodfins and 2 glass cats about a week and a half ago. do you think it was an egg that hatched?
 
ive had all the same plants for a month or more so im gonna rule that out. i drip acclimated the fish and then netted them into the main tank so i dont think any of the store water got in my tank.

and ive done a little research and im almost certain its a baby red ramshorn snail.
 
Its a crappy picture and the flash makes him look white but thats it.

If the plants came in with young eggs on them, it could take about a month for the eggs to hatch and the babies grow up to visible size.
 
A few of those popped up in my newly established tank (approx 1 mo.) as well. I've been picking them out anytime I've seen them. These things multiplied out of control in my last tank so I've been trying to keep them in check in this one. I hate these snails with a passion.
