I do not want to royally screw this 10 g tank purchase I just recently did. The guy sold me the tank for only 20 bucks as I was after the plants- he just said take the tank and the shrimps along with driftwood in it. I was cool with it.

Now when I put driftwood out of bucket into the tank. I was shocked to see a pair of thai micro crab clinging into the wood and they were very attached to each other. Now i saw gel thingy attached to the biggest one out of those two. 3 assassin snails were also in the tank as well was so pumped about that.

I have managed to kill all of my shrimps in the past and do not want to royally screw this one up.

The tank has 3-4 bee shrimps, 1 tiger shrimp, and those 2 thai micro crab- the substance is the special type from asia. Very mudlike feel to it if its touched.

The tank isn't heated but I'm curious if they'll be happier if its heated? what do I do with shrimps/crab to keep their shells happy. Do I add calcium and iodine to the tank as I do have some on hand anyhow? I'm not even sure how to fertilize the plants as theres copper in the plants ferts which is the reason why I always killed mine.

Any help would be appreciated.

all i know about thai micro crab from googling it up is that no one has managed to keep the babies alive.

Bee and tiger should not be housed together as they can hybridize.

They are cool water species, no heater needed. You don't need to dose calcium or iodine. What kind of plants are in the tank? What lighting?

Any help would be appreciated.

They are easy, detrivores. Breeding is not confirmed bu tthey are supposed to complete their lifecycle in freshwater. Feed sparingly, the crabs and the srhimp will graze on the plants. I feed my shrimp/crab tanks 2x per week.

Sounds like ADA soil.. seeing the little clumps turn into that mudlike substance you said.

Thank all of you guys for your responses. I'll go unheated as its nicer not to have one anyways.

The 10 G tank came with 9w nano light bulbs but I put in my 18 w that I had from my tom pico tank.

Theres different sorts of plants- some type of crypts, moss, anaubis, val-like plants - I will work on getting pictures this week after I finish sorting through the bucket. Yep- still going thru the bucket and slowly figuring out where I want the plants in that tank and another tanks.

I wanted to put my fissidens in that tank and ricca in this tank though.

I hope that tiger shrimp stays the heck away from those bees then. There's little shrimplets swimming about but they're not colored up yet. The tiger shrimp has this orange sheen to it. Cool looking shrimp. Can't put it in other tanks or it'll be fish food. Pictures to follow soon on those shrimps and crabs.

The guy didn't know the crabs was still alive when I emailed him tonight. He had them for months and forgot about them.

I have noticed my ramshorns in other tanks do have some shell errosion so was nervous about the assassin snail, shrimp and the crab getting that effect.
