what if you change the water and put the hose into a baucket this way if you suck any out they will be in the bucket -
i don't think getting sucked through the tube will harm them

when you syphon water from your tank, he's saying to put the end of the tube into a bucket, like a 5gal, so that if you suck up fish they go into the bucket rather than down a drain. Right?

Most selfstarting syphons have a grid at the end of the syphon tube that prevents a fish from being sucked up anyway...plus, I think it would have to be a relatively small fish to fit through the tubing unless it's a big syphon like what I've got for the 55g. Even then, it has that "strainer."
