Am I getting ripped off w my reef?

Hey All
I'm brand new. Though I've had cichlid tanks for 20 yrs, I just got a 120g reef tank, and have been having a blast with it over the past 3-months.
I did all my research about costs, and am fine spending $$ given how much I love the hobby.

But every time I go back to the shop I bought my setup, I'm walking away with over $1,000 worth of stuff. My only problem with this is that I see what seems to be similar livestock online for literally 1/3 of the cost. But I don't know if I'm comparing apples to apples.

I usually don't mind paying more for making sure I know what I am getting (and what will/not do well in my tank), and having great service to back it up -- so I dont want to disproportionately increase my own risk factor just to save a few bucks. But we're talking about a LOT more than a few bucks.

Bottom line is that I'd love to hear from others that debated online vs in person. Are there any extremely high quality and service-oriented online sites out there?

Thanks in advance for any advice...

I have found that even the same stock (fish, corals, equipment etc) has varying cost from store to store. The LFS that I normally buy from has the best personnel and pricing however sometimes they don't have what I am looking for and I go to one of the other places with higher prices and have to pay because I want it or need it now. I have shopped online a couple times and have also had good luck. You just need to know what you're after.
