Hey everyone, I just smoked the power supply in one of my computers, and need to repair it since I dont have the $130 for a new one.

Anyone know where I can buy single electronic components ? By single I mean a place that sells them without having to buy 100 of them.

I am looking for a TOP223YN transistor, or a TOP224YN or TOP225YN

What size power supply do you need?

I have a 230 watt power supply out of an HP computer that I will have no use for and I have a case coming that has a 450 watt power supply in it that I don't need either. Here is the case - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1901962&CatId=32

I just ordered it a few days ago, so it should be here any time.

I also have another case that has a 450 watt power supply - I bought the wrong case. Here is a link - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3250925&CatId=32

I bought the wrong one at their store in Raleigh, I had bought two, but one of them was the wrong one. The boxes looked the same. I was buying other stuff, but it is not worth the time and gas to go and return it.

Let me know if you can use any of this stuff.

WHile I really Appreciate the offer, Its a 2u rackmount server case.

Right now its running on a 230 watt ATX powersupply, but it does not fit on the case, so the top is open and the power supply is just laying there.

Would like a 500 watt PS later, but now the 300 watt that is in it should be ok.

I put this together so I could practice and hopefully pass my Microsoft Exams this spring.

this is what i need

MAN, my ratty-old-shack here might have a basic LM317 on a good day... lol radio shack just ain't what it used to be.

Anyhow, all atx compatable power supplies have the same voltage outputs (execpt some of the old cheapos that lacked the -5v wire). Why don't you just rebuild your old one with parts from the full atx psu in the pic?

the one in the pix is OLD.
its only 230 watts.

I took it apart, and its made completely different that the 2u PS.
I dont have a cross reference and cant determine which topswitch is even close.

the one in the new PS is only 50 watts...
the others listed above are 75, and 100 watts.
If I need to, I'll just order it, but I dont want to pay $7 shipping for a $3 part.

Right now the server has only 1 HDD, but I am planning on a 1.5 TB or bigger RAID5 array sometime in the future, so I'll need more power. eventually I'll upgrade to a 600 watt or so.

Problem is, is that the only component that has failed? You plug in a new transistor and it smokes in 0.25 secs because of some dead diode or cap that is in the circuit.
