so a year ago i purchased a fluval 405 and from day one i have keep best care of it, cleaning monthly and lubing, after day one i was in love with fluval. i would buy all there products religiously ex for heaters. but every time i would pull it apart and put it back together it was harder and harder to prime but no biggy, but then i noticed that both clips in side the filter that hold the impeller in place had broke so i siliconed them back on, then it make a horrible radeling sound and then striped the inplere out, so now im down a 200 dollar filter. i some mad a fluval for this a high end filter breaks in a year, i love all the features of the 405 but this has me angry, so i am righting fluval a big long letter, and pics, but the problem is i cant find the address, so if any buddy knows it please tell me. and if any buddy has had this problem or any other then please post them. i would hate to change my favorite brand, but if fluval doesn't give me some positive feed back then i just might have to move on to a competitor. sorry fluval

Impellers do break regardless of manufacturers. Reacting emotionally (i.e. writing a letter) won't solve your problem. If your unit in still under the warranty, Hagen should send you a new impeller. If not, buy a new impeller.

Fluval is made by Hagen

Looks like the parts you need are about $25

The impeller cover is the weakest point of the fluval canisters IME. Replacing that when one tab breaks off will save the impeller.

Should you decide to write them a letter, make sure you spell and punctuate correctly. Poorly written letters are usually ignored. I suggest that you have someone proof-read for you and make corrections.

If you need to replace impellers every 4 months, I would suspect something to be very wrong. Impellers should be able to sustain at least 1 (if not more) year of use.

The impeller cover although a poor design as other areas of this filter can be made to last by simply using a Vaseline to lube the sealing edge every time you install and lifting both ends a little at a time until popped out. You don't want to force one end up all the way then the other.

For repair carefully use PVC glue but not while installed or aluminum tape the edges of the entire cover down. Most canister parts brake from a lack of lubrication and being forced with too much torque and velocity the impeller cover on the 404/405 should last at least a year or two.
