View Full Version : sick coral tank
Is there anyone that can help me with my coral tank? Everything looks like there dying off. I have lost two plate corals two xenias and the rest have either stoped opening or have swelled up way to far. Nitrite 0.10 aminoa 0.00 temp 79.deg salt 10.22 nitrate 0.00. I have had it runing now for 5 years and i am at my wits end. Had one fish a clown it died last night, pulled him out with the rest of the dead corals. have only 15 crabs blue legged, 5 turbo snails, they havent moved all day, half in their shells. Im completely confused on the whole matter. Any help out there.

What has been the general health of the tank in those 5 years?
If all has been well until this recent decline is there a chance that some sort of contamination has occured or has anything changed in the maintance and care that the system has received?
With simultaneous fish, coral and invertebrate losses it could be some sort of toxin or contaminant.

you should ideally have 0 trites...
Everything the last five years has been great. water changes every two weeks and every eight weeks a water change of half with new subtrate. I was using water from a bottled water biz here in my town, but now im getting my own ro system,(Trying to find the problem,) I always used my own bottles to get the water, and got it right from there filter system.(with my own hands) Im also changing my skimer to a larger one as well adding a larger uv light. I also thought that a toxin was introduced but i have no way in finding out what it is. the only thing i can do is heavy water changes but im afraid of removing the bio thats in the tank.hopefully with the bigger stuff i can get it removed before i lose everything. I would like my trites lower but as fast as everything is dieing off i is pretty hard to get that under control. I lost my large lobo last night and praying that the rest recover that is left. I dont run my night lights and only keep the main light on for six hours now trying to reduce the stress in the tank. I cover the frount at night to stop the house lights flashing inside the tank and i lowered the temp to 74 deg and im raising the salt to 10.25 hoping they will snap out of it. What inverts that are left wont like me to much, but what else can i do......
