Hello all! I didn't realize I never posted. I signed up here probably when I bought my fish tanks summer,2008. I bought a 90gallon in hopes of stocking it with plants and some tetras,etc.. but wanted to stock and "practice" on my 10 gallon tank first.
Also, I couldn't afford to buy the rest of the stuff for the 90gallon to get it going . We finally set it up 2weeks ago. I have about 15 plants in there. Nothing major. I was very disapointed though, to find out the clerk sold me the wrong lighting system,after telling him I wanted to buy something good enough for live plants(not something basic) ,but I didn't want to spend $600.00 on a lighting system. I went into the store (a family owned business, not petsmart or somewhere and they KNEW what i should have gotten). and todl the guy I didn't want to spend 600 on a light but i want it to be good enough for palnts,because my whole porpose in buying thsi 90 gallon was to have a thriving planted tank. So he shows me ones for $130.00 . We get to the the counter and I'm counting up my total of everything for the filter, light rocks, etc.. and I comment abotu it getting close to 600 ,not even reaizing that what I'm thinking in my head is nto being communicated correctly. All the while I have no limit to spending on ALL the supplies combined, but i did put a limit on the lgiht fixture of 600. After I saw the total getting close to 600,and since we already got the light, I thought oh cool I can keep 'everything" under 600 : Yes,I admit I was being cheap after that, especially after he sold me a failry (to me) inexpensive light fixture.
later on my dad who used to do fish, sees me tank and after hearing me talk about buying more plants and supplimenting with C 02 because i got a good light fixture, (so I thought) he says I do NOT have enough lighting for my plants so c 02 is not even needed. Then he says I need a even better lighting system. I go back and confront the guy at the fish store,and he explains to me that I todl him my limit was 600 and so he was trying to work with me on keeping everything under my limit. I am not good at remembering everying I say to other people,but after I think about it, I do start remembering. It wasn't until today I realized that by the way I worded the things I said, he thought that i only wanted to spend 600 anitially. Yes, after we got the lgiht for 130 and I was exited about how cheap I got it, I decided to limit it to 600. But when we first walked in my limit was "less than 600" for the lgiht fixture alone,(not everything combined). I asked my husband (who has nothing do to with this hobby because it's *my* thing) what he thought I meant,and he said he thought the same as the other guys ! I realize the misunderstandings now, but I am still upset that he would sell something that was stil lnot "good enough" just to meet a limit he thought I had on everything combined.
Anyway, they do have higher priced lighting systems that were under 600 that would have been twice as nice,and more than good enough than what I have,and I would have bought one of them(that was 3hundred something). The guy said he never showed it to me because I didn't want to "spend more than 600" and I am so used to second guessing myself that at the time I thought "did i really say that??" and just went home. I DIDN'T say that. When we first walked in I said I didn't want to spend more than 600 on a LIGHT ! When I talked about spending more than 600 at the counter,it was AFTER he recomended the light, when I started thinking cheap(cus we already had the light he recomended). Im so not good at commuicating,and now these guys are gonig to think I'm lying or 'changed my mind" and that's NOT the case.
