Just wondering if ya'll leave the filter material in it or take it out? Would it have the same effect that the bio-wheels are supposed to have...helping nitrates get out of hand?

Thanks!

I'd leave the filter media out. You would just be using the filter for water circulation anyways. If you have already bought the filter, just keep the filter media on the side just in case you ever have to use medications in the tank (the carbon will remove the meds when you're done with them). Hope this helps!

Hm, guess I was kinda vague on this. The CPR Bak Pak is a protein skimmer, that on the outflow side has some shaved plastic filter media (just a bunch of shavings, not a filter pad with carbon) which it says is to promote bacteria growth and to reduce bubbles. I was wondering if the filter media would present the same problems as the bio wheels do on certain power filters.

D'oh! Sorry about that! I guess I'm more of a newbie than I like to admit! :D . I had temporary memory loss there!

If you're using for a reef, take the stuff out. CPR makes a model without the bale, the 2R, for reef setups.

No problem! Thanks for the advice, thats kinda what I figured I should do anyway. Am I gonna have a problem w/ the bubbles after taking it out?

The 2R has some extra baffles to reduce bubble output, but I think you will be fine.

Edit: Just did a little hunting, and CPR makes an internal bubble trap (http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PA&Product_Code=CPR-BUBBLE1&Category_Code=Bakpak) if you find you're getting too many bubbles.
