I've searched low and high to find Spectracide but to no avail. I bought Gordon's Stump Remover years ago to...well remove a stump but never used it. The web site MSDS (http://www.pbigordon.com/consumer_products_msds/stump_remover_msds.pdf) says its 99% potassium nitrate the other 1% is Calcium stearate.

Will this harm or kill my fish?

I'm going on a county line to county line search for potassium nitrate tomorrow, whether it be salt petre or stump remover. If I don't find any, is the Gordon's an option.

I have a growing hair alge problem and zero nitrates. I need to correct this problem and get the algae under control.

I don't know for sure on that brand but I use the Green Light brand from Walmart. I've seen Green Light products sold in some nursuries too.

You can also order KNO3 online from Plant Guild:

I have heard some people also obtained the chemical from a pharmacy although they might look at you a little crazy when you ask if you can get saltpetre ordered.

The one you have sounds fine. I didn't think calcium stearate would cause any problems, but I looked up and MSDS to be sure:
www.undesa.com/msds/gb/Kemistab%20EC.pdf
(Look under 'ecological information')
(BTW, under bacteria toxicity that's 22ppm, you'll never ever reach that high)

Get the Salt Petre if you can......the brand of stump remover you found will not be as pure, but will work fine as an alternative.
