 i bought these plants for two bucks apiece because the lfs had them in a shipment of java fern, or something, and they didn't know what they were. i think they may be african tiger lotus, but the leaves are arrow shaped rather than rounded. the tops of the leaves can be a mottled color of browns/greens/reds, and the under sides can be a dark purple, almost black. lately the coloring has changed to mostly green/brown, and i don't know why, i havent changed the lighting or anything. anyway, the plants grow from a hard tuber like thing, maybe it's called a corm? its black and rough, a little bigger than a golf ball. the plants put out stems about 4 inches long with a single leaf on the end. the leaves are about 6 in. long, and maybe 3 in. wide on the largest ones. they also put out leaves that grow to the surface. the plants have been proliferating like you wouldn't believe. the small plants can just be pulled off the tuber, and planted in gravel. it seems when they're planted like this, they tend to grow more horizontally. i hope this is enough info. any ideas?

I'm not sure they are aponogetons...sounds somewhat familiar though. I'll look around and get back to you if it comes to me. Good luck!
