Hi everyone, thanks for always answering my questions so well. A while ago I read that this Cycle bacteria product was a bad thing and caused harm in some way. For the life of me I can't remember what the post was about. Can someone please enlighten me about the cons of using this bacteria in a bottle? Or simply post a link to somewhere that explains the negative aspects... Thanks again!

cycle in a bottle is supposed to speed up the cycling of your tank. from my own experience it doesnt work.

I've used the stuff on a few diff. ocassions.
Seemed like it worked sometimes, and sometimes I didn't see any affect at all.
I am thinking when it did work, I already had plenty of ammonia in the tank.
I'm going to go read that thread, Renegade left the link for. :)

I glanced through that thread and, from what I could see, it was mostly about Bio-spira, which is the "good" cycle product. There are a lot of others, like the one named Cycle, which are not recommended.
There was a good post on the actual Cycle product by JSchmidt in this thread http://64.191.28.50/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7895 specifically the 8th entry down.

Thanks for that link to the BioSpira. Very useful. I was initially inquiring about the product "Cycle." It gives so many claims about having billions and billions of colonies of bacteria in them and I remember reading something about "Cycle" not working/being harmful in some way. Thanks!

If you do a seach on this site for bio spira you will find lots of posts by satisified customers. I tried it myself and had very good results. I added it about 5 days into a fishy cycle with measurable ammonia in my tank. About 5 days later my tank was completely cycled.

Here's another thread, apart from the one I mentioned above, in which Cycle is mentioned as having dubious results.

I tried cycle and it did nothing for my tank. I have not tried the new and improved cycle. However, I have used bio spira successfully 3 times. Here's a link comparing the two:
