I have a african cichlid tank and I am looking for a new submersible return pump from my sump I have had the Rio and they are not so good. everytime i do a water change when i try to plug the pump back on it rarely works on the first try so i have to bang it around a few times and then it starts I dont want to take a chance of being out of town and having a power outage and then when the power comes back on the pump wont turn back on. So I was hoping that you guys could let me know the best company to make a SUBMERSIBLE pump for me. I will be looking for 600-800 gph at a 6ft head thanks in advance!!

If you are looking for a quality pump and can get away with about 500-600 then I would suggest the Ehiem 1262 if not then maybe go with a MAG 950. I have been useing the TAMM Rio HF pumps and have never had any problems but thats me.

I use the Danner Supreme Mag drive pumps (MD5 and MD9.5) and never had an issue with one. I haven't had good luck with Tamm Rio.

I bought a Mag and exchanged it with a Maxi-Jet. With a Maxi-Jet, you can adjust the flow rate.

I've used a number of Danner Mag-Drive pumps and can highly recommend them.
I've also use a number of Pentair - Quiet-One pumps and have had issues with 3 of them. They have been replaced with Mag-Drive.

thanks for all the input guys looks like the mag is the way to go more expensive then the rio hf but worth it and if needed i will just put a ball valve on it to control the flow rate thanks again for all the help and info
