I'm looking for the best hang on back filtration for a 75 gallon tank.
Please give opinions and reasoning for liking them. I don't care about the money side so much as just having something that is powerful and user friendly.

Thanks

You are about to get a debate between the emperor 400 and AC110. Honestly no single HOB can handle a 75. Just combine them until you reach 750 gph or more in flow. I have no brand preference and use AC, emperor, penguin, and whisper filters on my tanks. They all kind of work the same.

To me, the best filter is one that works, is quiet, and lasts. Could be any brand. I've used whisper/top fin, marineland, hagen, rena, and out of those I'm partial to the hagen aquaclear filters. With proper maintenance, they work well, they are quiet, and they will last. Just remember the proper maintenance part and I'm sure any of those filters will fit your needs.

The aquaclear 110 is more versatile for media, and has a lifetime warranty. I use 2 on one 75, and 1 on another along with a powerhead and an air-driven sponge filter.

I use 2 Emperor 400's on my 90 gallon Oscar tank. I do not use the cartridges and instead pack it with poly fiber. I have 4, 400's, 2, 280's and 3, 110's and find no difference in ability to maintain my tanks or in versatility.

I use polyfiber as mechanical media in all my filters and find it to be far superior to cartridges. I have Emperors, Aqua Clears and Tetra Whispers. The only difference is that the Whispers were free.

I go by flow rate and not manufacturer name.
