I am looking at canister filters for my 55 gallon tank that is planted. I am looking to buy something nice, and am looking at eheim filters, espescially the pro series and would love feedback from people!:werd:

They are user friendly, quiet, easy to clean, works well, and durable.

Definitely better quality than fluval IMO, though I think the classic series is a better design than the pro series for long-term durablilty if lacking the convenience.

Agreed - Eheim Classics>>Pro

really? You guys like the classic more? I have only seen them from the outside would be interested in seeing the inside...they also are much cheaper

edit: I hope some people who chose the pro can chime in and give their reasoning for why they went pro instead of classic

Simpler design all around, less parts to wear out or break in the long run. Eheim has come out with the pro series and the real high-end line with all sorts of add-ons and conveniences to keep up with other manufacturers, but they don't filter water any better.

I ended up getting a pro instead of a classic because it seemed easier to set up and clean. I've heard a lot about the classic being difficult to clean and prime. I went for the easier model.

I have two classics and a pro and I prefer the classic. It is a little annoying to prime but I love the simplicity. I also like the fact that there is no media bypass.

yes you can run inline stuff with the classics i have a 2211 and 2213 and run inline CO2 and a Hydro in line heater on each one. while i like the classic thay are a pain in the *** to prime and i think the pro series are just to expensive and i would go with a Marineland C-series or a Sunsun canister filter over the pro.

you build a Co2 reactor to be hooked up inline sort of like this (http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/diy/65191-my-diy-co2-reactor.html)

when i had my C-220 i really liked it that was back when i could get them off ebay for like 80shipped now there more expensive. the thing with them is they have vary tight interlocking basket which mean almost no water bypass also thay are easier to prime because thay have a priming button. the SunSun basically the same product but much cheaper and i know CWO4GUNNER likes them (coming from im thats something). here is his review of them (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215102&highlight=SunSun).

okay dokay...well in the next two days im tracking a bid on ebay for an eheim pro II 2028, and if it stays cheap i might get that. If not ill look into the marinland and the sunsun

After reading this i did not that Gunner suggested lubricating stuff with Vaseline....can anyone verify doing this? And would you lubricate the inside as well?

For the price, I don't think you can beat a Rena Filstar XP3. I got mine new for $109.

nope usually just moving parts or the tubing to get it on also i know some people like to use it along the O rings on the canisters

I went with the eheim classic (2217), and I'm happy with it. I've cleaned it out once since the install with no issues. No spills, no big mess - really not that difficult. I read so many good things about them, that the fact that the pricing was better than the Pro series just made it a really easy decision. So far I'm still very pleased.

With the double taps on the classics, I never really have to prime. I do admit that cleaning may be a little tough compared to rinsing trays, but w/ some gallon buckets around, it's no biggie. Check the flow rates & capacities of the classics. Dollar per dollar, they rock.

well i got an eheim pro 2 2028 for about $110 on ebay i figured id go with it because it worked on larger tanks, it was relatively cheap for the model, and i do like the idea of the ease. Thanks for all the info everyone it was a big help. Next big tank I do i think i will try the classic but for now i needed something my girlfriend/younger brother could fix/clean if i was away.
